Retro-Posts consist of content that I wrote in the past, earlier on in my journey. You may notice that some of my ideas, concepts and understandings have evolved and deepened over time ~ I have decided that it is important to be completely open about my path, and take pride in the learning I have done along the way. I hope that it empowers some of you to recognize the need to allow yourself to shed all that no longer serves you, and be open to changing your perceptions, and growing into and out of each stage in the process of self-exploration and self-realization. I have learned to appreciate this spiritual adventure, and look forward to further transformation as I move into the future ~ care to join me? ​

​Self-Knowledge is knowing your true Self, as opposed to the versions of your Self that others know. Notice how I said “versions” ~ in my experience we have, at minimum, 5 versions of our Selves:1.    Public Self ~ who we are while in the general public, with people we don’t know. Usually, this version is polite, vague and reserved.2.   Acquaintance Self ~ who we are with people who are not in our immediate circle of friends (i.e. co-workers, distant relatives, acquaintances, etc.). Normally, this version is a slightly superficial manifestation of who we want others to think we are.3.   Friend Self ~ who we are when among friends; comfortable enough to relax, but still reserved in some areas.4.   Family Self ~ who we are in the company of close family, and a select few friends. In many cases, we confuse this version with our True Self.5.   True Self ~ who we really are; 100% authentic, with no reservations whatsoever. This Self knows and honours our innermost dreams and desires regardless of what other people think. Most people don’t fully know (or are even aware of) this version of themselves, having buried it deep inside their subconscious during childhood when they were exposed to rejection from their parents, families, peers or society in general.Achieving Self-knowledge takes courage, because it’s not easy to take an objective look at who we are. Appreciating the positive aspects of our Self is easy; it’s admitting to all of our not-so-wonderful habits, behaviours and traits that is the greatest challenge. This is not to say that you need to be cruel and feel badly about your Self; quite the contrary ~ this is an opportunity for forgiveness and growth. Identify something that you can improve upon, and then let it go and move forward! Like many have said in the past: you’re a spiritual being having a human experience, which, in part, means that you are allowed to make mistakes along your journey, and to forgive yourself for them.
